Alcon WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser and FS200 Femtosecond Laser
The Wavelight EX500 Excimer laser, built on trusted Wavelight technology, is a big leap forward in efficient accurate refractive laser vision treatments. What separates this system from the pack is that its ablation speed is running at 500Hz. In laments terms this is good news because now the laser checks and rechecks the position of the eye 500 times a second. Making this the most accurate and efficient machine on the market. With an average treatment time of approximately 1.4 seconds per diopter, its efficiency and accuracy can’t be beat. The WaveLight® FS200 Femtosecond Laser, built on our trusted Wavelight technology, is the next step forward in fast, accurate refractive Laser treatments. The reason the new F200 laser is faster and safer than the older system is because the ablation speed is running at 500Hz. They have found the increase ablation speed has increased a patient’s likelihood to see 20/20 or better uncorrected on a three to six month follow up appointment. It is safer because surgeons previously could only target refractions in increments of .25 diopters. With the new FS200 laser, the surgeon is enabled to adjust refractions in .01 diopter increments. This new development allows the surgeon to increase their accuracy of your nomogram, which further increases better results.
A faster, and safer surgery was the man goal for this new machine; however, it also helps reduce the potential for: Stromal Dehydration of the Cornea, Flap Shrinkage, Sensitivity to eye movements, and patient Fixation Fatigue. The WaveLight® FS200 Femtosecond Laser can be networked via a wireless connection with other Alcon systems in the operating room. CustomVue and Iris Registration Technology – Overview

Today these efforts are represented by the marriage of the STAR S4 Excimer Laser System and the WaveScan Wavefront System creating the CustomVue Procedure
The CustomVue tailors a distinct correction for each individual – in fact each treatment is”designed” by the unique characteristics of the individuals’ eyes. WaveScan technology captures unique imperfections in each individual’s vision that could not have been measured before. This new level of measurement provides 25-times more precision than measurements using standard methods for glasses and contact lenses. WaveScan technology produces a detailed map of the eye – much like a fingerprint, no two are alike and translates this information into a set of CustomVue treatment instructions for the laser. WaveScan transfers these digital treatment instructions to the laser, providing a new level of precision and accuracy.
Iris Registration (IR) allows accurate adjustment of the laser beam to compensate for eye rotation when patients lie down to undergo LASIK. This allows far more accurate treatment of prescriptions with astigmatism.
