VISX S4 Laser and WaveScan

The VISX S4 Laser and WaveScan is an innovative device that helps with LASIK procedures. A WaveScan is a computerized device that is used to create a “fingerprint” of the patient’s vision before surgery. Your WaveScan is unique to you. This way the device captures your refraction and uploads your diagnostic data to the computer that operates the laser during surgery. This device was approved for use by the FDA in 1995. This improvement helps to expand the treatment ablation zone, this helps to minimize night aberrations in people who have large pupils. This laser uses sub-micron accuracy that can reshape the cornea, allowing the focus of light to fall on the retina.

CustomVue and Iris Registration Technology

The CustomVue procedure is the combination of the STAR S4 Excimer Laser System and the WaveScan Wavefront System. The CustomVue procedure tailor’s correction for each patient. Each treatment is designed by the unique characteristics of the patient’s eyes. The WaveScan device helps to capture the unique features of a patient’s vision that couldn’t be measured before. This helps to provide 25 times more precision than stand methods of measurements. The WaveScan creates a detailed map of the eye and sends this information to the computer for the CustomVue treatment.
