“Dr. Melki, you have made my visual life possible, my dreams possible.

When I arrived at Boston Laser last fall, my vision hovered between 20/300 and 20/400. The daily process of living was difficult, not to mention the frustration of trying to see intricate, abstract artistic ideas and translate them into reality through a camera viewfinder or across the surface of arches watercolor paper.

At this point, I met you, Dr. Melki, a physician with heart, a compassionate person who believes in hope and dreams, what ‘”can be”. And you expressed that connection many times by visiting my hospital room when you were surely tired after a full schedule of surgery.

What is remarkable about you is a rare attribute in this world. You have and you posses the definitive expertise to remove an extremely “tricky” cataract in an abnormal eye, the only eye in which I have useable vision. You not only had the courage and confidence to tackle this risky procedure, but you also had the depth of humanity to smile warmly and express completely a belief in me, my future as a sighted person and “visual artist”.

I was given a gift when you became my surgeon; when you so diligently guided my treatment. I would recommend you, and Boston Laser, to anyone seeking a superb physician and exceptional care.

The final result of your efforts, your willingness, to fight for my ability to see the world, that result is the enclosed color-ink drawing, “Forced Lines,” completed on 5/25/05. This”idea” led to full-scale, 22″x 30″ drawing, which was completed on Memorial Day.

Because of your respect for me and your determination to give me better vision, I can now reach for my future as an artist; because of you, I can enhance life fully and with joy. What a miracle 20/80 vision is; how wonderfully you have changed my life.”

“Dear Boston Laser,

I am writing to thank Doctor Melki for the Laser Vision Correction surgery he performed on me last week. As a set designer I often work long hours and travel frequently. Having worn contact lenses for years I have encountered many problems that have hindered my ability to work such as dry sore eyes, irritation from lenses as well as several infections on account of seemingly oversensitive eyes. I have been meaning to have Laser Vision Correction for several years but a mixture of fear of the surgery and anxiety over the success prevented me from going forward with it.

When I finally decided to have Laser Vision Correction I wanted to go with someone I trusted and Doctor Melki was recommended to me as the best. I was very afraid of the whole process especially the surgery itself. In consultation Doctor Melki was informative, reassuring and put me completely at ease surrounding the entire procedure. He explained to me in great detail the entire process which left me with no hesitation whatsoever about my choice to have the operation. When I traveled from New York to Boston for my surgery, I was treated with the utmost professionalism and personal care that made the whole experience far less traumatic than I had feared. At no point during the procedure did I feel anything but complete confidence in Doctor Melki and his staff. I was made to feel completely taken care of post operation and was able to check I daily with Doctor Melki after I returned to New York. I can’t describe how wonderful it is to wake up every morning and be able to see. I want to thank Doctor Melki and Boston Laser for not only enhancing my life professionally and personally but also making the whole experience as trauma-free as they possibly could, especially for one as afraid as I was.

I would like to highly recommend Dr. Melki and Boston laser to anyone and everyone considering laser vision correction.

Thank you again.”

Yours truly,

I was evaluated a year ago by a competitor and was told that I was a perfect candidate for LASIK. For the last year, I had been hoping to have the LASIK procedure performed. After my evaluation at Boston Laser, Dr. Melki suggested LASEK instead. I appreciate his professional opinion and his honesty, which showed me that I was patient, and not just a “customer.” Also, after the procedure, I had a problem with dry eyes and was seen the same day I called. The next day I felt better and have been fine since. It has been a month since the surgery and my vision is great and still improving. Thank you to Dr. Melki and the entire staff at Boston Laser.

After having three consultations I was getting apprehensive because I didn’t find I was getting enough information from the consultations. I mentioned this to my chiropractor who happened to have lasik here with Dr. Melki. After talking at length with my chiropractor about his experience as well as his receptionists experience who also had lasek here and seeing his credentials online; I made an appointment for my fourth consultation. I was armed with a lot of questions, especially the differences between lasik and lasek and why lasek was chosen to be the best suited for me. Any questions were answered thoroughly. I was apprehensive about the recovery time because there were no guarantees on healing time because everyone heals differently. It could have taken weeks to see clearly but it didn’t. I was seeing clearly in 5 days and had virtually no pain, just a little discomfort. I am thrilled with the outcome so far.

The corrective surgery will allow me to be a Los Angeles County lifeguard. This has been my dream since I first became a lifeguard when I was 15. Because of my new eyes I will be able to prevent people from drowning and save people’s lives. I have always had the athletic ability to do so and now I have the vision that they (LA only) require. Thank you Dr. Melki and your staff.

As a surgeon, I did an extensive amount of research prior to my lasik procedure. After several months I chose Dr. Melki and the Boston Laser not only based on his credentials, but from “asking around” at work. The evaluation was extremely thorough. I was actually followed clinically for one month prior to my procedure to ensure I was an ideal candidate. My procedure went well and the day after I was 20/15 in each eye. I still am in disbelief that I no longer need glasses or contacts. Thank you!

“If I thought my vision was going to be as good as it is today….I would have done this years ago. Dr. Melki did a wonderful job! It was quick and painless.”

“I am 33 years old and I have been wearing glasses since I was in the third grade. I remember feeling embarrassed about having to get my first pair. My vision without glasses was honestly like opening my eyes under water. It was so bad that one time I remember setting them down on the bed to change my sweater and it took me thirty minutes to find them again. After a couple of these episodes, I was more than curious about the benefits of LASIK.

What has transpired since my surgery is something of a miracle. I feel completely reborn and my life is like night and day as compared to before. I am now able to see across the bedroom the moment I awake. I am able to read the fine print on the shampoo bottle and see the bottom of the bathtub while taking a shower. I know these seem like simple tasks, but they are extraordinary accomplishments for someone with my visual ability. I must admit that in the beginning I was very doubtful about the outcome of this procedure but I am very satisfied with my decision.

A million thanks to you and to your courteous and professional staff. I have already recommended your name to several of my friends.”

I’ve been wearing glasses or contacts for the past 15 years. I’ve always had very dry eyes so over the years wearing contacts every day had become a struggle. I decided to do lasik and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done! Waking up with crystal clear vision is amazing. I can’t thank Dr. Melki and his team enough!!

This is my one week follow up following Lasek. My protective contacts are being removed today and hopefully my vision will be clear once they are removed (vision is still a little foggy).

This morning I actually woke up and was able to see out the window without glasses. It was amazing taking a shower without contacts and still be able to see. I’m looking forward to experiencing life without the burden and hassle of contacts or glasses.

It’s still early (6 days post Lasek surgery) but I could tell pretty much from day one that I would be thrilled with the results. I went from about –9.0 prescription and was so frustrated with not seeing when I wake up at night or worrying bout falling asleep with my contacts in and just generally feeling helpless. If I got something on a lens while at work or traveling a huge panic ensued. I’m now about 20/20 in one eye and close to 20/30 in the other and still counting. Dr. Melki tempered my expectations because my sight was so bad to start and I am more from thrilled with the results. I trusted Dr. Melki and staff from start to finish.

I just wanted to write to you and hope that you will give Dr. Melki my personal and very warm thanks and appreciation for his treatment of my mother.

My mother had no sight in her right eye for over 20 years as a result of the herpes virus. When she lost sight in her left eye last June due to other reasons, and her doctor recommended that she should see Dr. Melki about the right eye, with the hope of restoring her eye sight, we were all VERY skeptical.

Since she had nothing to lose- we came to see him and agreed to a cornea transplant plus a cataract operation. All went very smoothly and, as Dr. Melki promised, she began gaining sight in that eye within a few weeks. At this point she is able to read again, something she was not able to do at all since June, and all due to that operation. My mother feels good and cheerful. She functions completely on her own and able to manage every – day things like writing checks, shop and read the labels, read her mail and watch television.

Dr. Melki always treats her with the outmost respect and is very cautious in his medical decisions as to not risk the success of the operation.

Please thank him from all of us. My mother owes her current quality of life to him alone.

Dear Dr. Melki,

Thank you for your kind words — write this is my pleasure, and seems profoundly important to me to ‘get right’ at this particular time; who knows why.

You may be aware of the fact that there are those within our tradition, strictly-literal orthodox, who support stringent prohibitions against organ/tissue transplants.

Today, after fixing a couple of typo’s & making a few other edits to my note to share with a couple of other people, I was talking with our rabbi about this again and, I asked him to”do a teaching” on this topic. In addition to the general links that I added to the end, I pointed him to the information about the artificial implants.

Again, as much I appreciate and respect the science, I particularly am grateful for the human touch. With all that Sonny’s medical history includes — the cancer, the reconstructions/repairs, the cardiac episodes/arrhythmia, the by-pass surgery, the pulmonary low-pressure, etc. etc. — the clinical concerns typically are our chief concerns.

What was different here is that I was utterly opposed to exposing him to any elective risk; it certainly seems I was completely off-base on this one! He is more animated (actually borderline-optimistic!) than I have seen him in a very, very, very long time.

All kinds of surprises ….I’m very thankful.

I have worn glasses since high school. Whenever I looked at my cable box for the time I had to put my glasses on to see. Vision correction has changed the way I see and I must say it’s a beautiful thing not to have to wear my glasses. I love it! Thank you!

I’m writing to express my utmost appreciation to Dr. Melki, Dr. Nouri, and all the staff, for the incredible care they have given me with regards to my LASEK procedure. Between Dr. Melki’s skill and Kerry Mahoney’s calm voice and commitment to walking the patient through the process, the surgery went as easily as could be expected. And the aftercare and follow-up with Dr. Nouri has been nothing less than outstanding. All in all, the procedure has gone incredibly well with the end result being slightly better than perfect with 20/15.

Sincerely, Michelle G. Graduate Student

Dear Dr. Melki & Boston Laser Staff,

It has been about six months since my surgery and I wanted to take a minute in order to check in and let you know how my life has changed. It is very difficult to sum up how happy I am with my decision to get LASIK at Boston Laser. After struggling with poor eye sight for 29 years, you have truly brought comfort and convenience back into my life.

Sports and fitness have always been very important to me. Regardless of the season, I have always been and always will be involved in some form of physical activity. Although contact lenses were a big step up from regular glasses, there were still major inconveniences. First and foremost there was always the fear of losing a lens at any point during the activity. I also remember playing basketball in dry dusty gyms. By the second half of games my eyes would be partially shut due to irritation from the dust in the air. Also as I’m sure anyone who has ever worn contacts will attest too, there is no greater pain than getting sweat into an eye with a lens in it. An almost equally painful occurrence of having dirt and debris blow into my eye was a constant threat during outdoor activities.

Needless to say, I will never have to worry about any of these hassles again. Two weeks after my LASIK procedure I was up and active. Only this time I no longer worry about a dusty gym, a windy day on the golf course, or simply losing a contact in the middle of a game. It is as if I see the playing field from a new and improved perspective. I would HIGHLY recommend LASIK at the Boston Laser to anyone from the weekend warrior to professional athletes.

Having to deal with travel for business was always a major problem when I relied on contacts. I remember that if I fell asleep on a flight I would wake up with dry and even on one occasion a torn lens. There is always the added burden of making sure to pack contact cases, solutions, and glasses. Now that I have had LASIK I never worry about these headaches. I am relaxed on flights and can nap at will without the fear of waking up with what feels like a potato chip on my eye. Traveling to different parts of the country and being exposed to different allergens used to make putting my lenses in next to impossible. This procedure has removed one of the biggest burdens that I had to deal with as a sales professional that travels on a regular basis.

There are countless ways in which LASIK has improved my life. I think it’s the little things that I hardly notice and the time saved from not dealing with contacts and glasses which may be the most important. I really want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of your staff members that did everything to make me feel safe from the first consultation to the day of the procedure to my follow up appointments. You made sure I was comfortable with everything from appointment times, financing, what my options were, and what the final procedure entailed. Now I feel it’s my duty to tell others that there is no need to go through life with the burden of poor eye site! Thank you again for bringing comfort and convenience back into my life.

One would think that working at Boston Laser would have made my decision to have laser vision correction easier. For a year I watched patients come in after their procedures and their results were phenomenal! I finally got too jealous of all of these people who were throwing out their glasses and decided that it was time for me to have my own eyes corrected. Once my decision was made, Dr. Melki walked me through the process, giving me his recommendation for my eyes and making sure that I understood all of the pros and cons.

My decision was made. I scheduled my procedure for a Friday afternoon and spent all morning a nervous wreck. I wish I had known how easy the procedure was – I could have saved myself a lot of anxiety! I was given my postoperative instructions and my Valium, which helped with my nerves. The surgery itself took no more that 15 minutes and I couldn’t feel anything! My eyes were numbed and my only job was to focus on a red light. After the procedure, I was instructed to keep my eyes closed for fifteen minutes so Dr. Melki could determine how my eyes were healing. After getting checked, I was ready to go home and take a nap.

When I woke up after my nap, my vision was still blurry but I could already see clearer! The big change came the next morning after a full night’s sleep. I took off my shields and couldn’t believe my eyes! I hadn’t been able to see that clearly without glasses since I was five years old. The change in my vision was unbelievable. I drove myself to my one-day follow up and was told by Dr. Melki that I could already see the 20/25 line on the eye chart! I was amazed!

It’s been over three years since I’ve had my eyes corrected and my vision hasn’t changed at all. I’m still 20/20 at distance and don’t need glasses for near or distance. One thing is for sure – after having worn glasses and contacts for over 15 years, I don’t take this new vision for granted. I still remember what it was like to wear my coke-bottle glasses – I just wish I hadn’t waited so long to get rid of them!

The staff at Dr. Melki’s office are genuinely concerned when I have questions or concerns. They try their best to answer all my questions. I do have concerns about my laser surgery an I have the utmost respect for Dr. Melki who has been nothing but up front and honest with me. I have referred quite a few people to this office.

Dear Dr. Melki,

…My new eyesight is miraculous with vision a dozen times brighter than I had before the operation, and color is now as intense as I used to see it. While all my vision is still diffused, particularly beyond a couple of feet, I know that it is slowly improving.

So, miracle man, I am resuming my life and work as it used to be.
